Rascom QAF-1R at 2.9°E C-band Reception: Introduction

The single carrier in the frequency spectrum is transmitted using the DVB-S/QPSK technological standard. Quality measurement results confirmed that, at the output of a 450 cm PF antenna in Central Europe (Lučenec, Slovak Republic, EIRP = 39 dBW), I achieved an ideal reception quality, verified by the channel bit error rate (CBER, pre-Viterbi decoding), CBER = 0.00 × 10⁻⁶, which means that out of 1,000,000 received bits, not a single bit was erroneous, at SNR/MER = 14 dB.

Rascom QAF-1R : PF 450 cm Reflector Configuration and Standard C Footprint
The PF (Prime Focus) 450 cm reflector was used for the reception of the Rascom QAF-1R satellite at 2.9°E in C-Band. The first photo illustrates the antenna setup, while the second shows the satellite’s Standard C footprint, indicating its coverage area over the region. This configuration ensures optimal signal reception and provides a clear view of the satellite’s intended radiation pattern, facilitating accurate monitoring and verification of TT&C and beacon frequencies.
The red marker on the map indicates the geographic reception location and the site of all measurements in Central Europe (Lučenec, Slovak Republic), with a theoretically calculated power intensity of approximately EIRP = 39 dBW.

As demonstrated by the published signal monitoring over a duration of t=24 hours, the carrier at f=4,007 MHz-R does not represent a continuous service. Instead, it is an irregular satellite signal distribution, with net activity sometimes limited to only 12 hours per day.
